Library Policies: Best Practices for Strong Library Policies

Speakers: Emily O’Neal, Deschutes Public Library; Adrienne Doman Calkins, Sherwood Public Library; Marie Felgentrager, Roseburg Public Schools; Lizbeth Chavez Villasenor, Beaverton City Library

Description:

In this time of extensive challenges to library policies, materials, and practices, one of the best defenses a library system can proactively take is to have well-documented and officially adopted library policies. In this preconference, we will walk through best practices for many of the most important policies including Behavior Policies, Collection Development Policies, Request for Reconsideration Policies and processes, and more. We will share tools to help you identify gaps in your policies and tips for improvements. Go from ideas to action plan with hands-on activities that give you a head start in drafting policies that protect your library before a challenge situation arises.
