Mid-Career Librarians: Inspired and Engaged Over Their Careers

Speakers: Jane Nichols, Oregon State University; Hannah Gascho Rempel, Oregon State University

Description
Learn how mid-career librarians seek out and learn new professional information, find inspiration to stay engaged, and integrate new ideas into their work. Mid-career spans the middle 10-30+ years of a career. We will share what we learned from interviewing 15 academic librarians about how they experience this career point in today’s age-diverse environment. We’ll share how changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic affected their learning preferences, what inspires their curiosity, their evaluation of their career cycle stage, and their thoughts about what is most pressing in librarianship. We will discuss how our findings inform training efforts and retention strategies.
