Make Syllabi Work for You! Methods & Tools for Liaison Librarians

Speakers: Sara Robertson, Portland Communtiy College; Andrea Berg, University of Washington

Description
While ready access to course descriptions and learning outcomes have been a useful tool for library liaisons, further details about course materials, assignments and learning activities are found in the syllabus. At Portland Community College, a large multi-campus college, we are hoping to use access to a syllabi repository as a mechanism for learning about the diverse programs and curriculum we support. In this presentation we will review the literature on best practices, share our own findings on the methodology and tools we have developed for syllabi analysis, and discuss how this approach can assist liaison librarians in collection development and information literacy instruction.
